Hey there!

My name is Shaylyn Austin. I grew up in sunny Hermosa Beach, CA digging for sand crabs at the waves' end and straining my eyes to catch that green flash at sunset to no avail. Once I perfected my boogie boarding technique, I  traded in my flip-flops for snow boots and moved to Ann Arbor to attend the University of Michigan. Somehow, I was able to withstand the -20 °F winds (I spent two winters studying abroad in the tropics), and I just graduated with a B.S. in Program in the Environment and a Minor in Writing. The Minor in Writing granted me the challenging and fulfilling opportunity to conceive and execute any writing project of my choosing for my senior capstone project. This is that.
